Hansika Motawani makes the right moves »

Hansika MotwaniHansika Motwani, the fresh new face of Tollywood, is basking in the glory of her debut film “Desamuduru”. All of 16, this was her first innings as a lead actress, but Hansika is no stranger to the camera. For the uninitiated, hansika is the same girl who won hearts with her performances in Balaji serials like “Kyunki…, Des mein nikla hoga chand” and in movies like “Jaago” and “Koi Mil Gaya” as a child artiste. ” It’s funny how people gasp when they realise that I was the child artiste they saw in serilas about three years ago. I started acting when I was 10 and took a break when I was 13 so that I could arrive in a new avatar.  It was my Mom’s decision and it worked. My luck teeth have gone, I have shed the baby fat and people are willing to accept me as a herione now”.

Hansika was (re)discovered by Puri Jagananth when he saw her on the sets of a Bollywood film. “He saw my work and said that he’d love to have me in his new film. I heard the script and loved it. So, I said ‘yes’ to the film,”says Hansika. For someone who is still in her teens, hansika plays her cards quite well. In spite of being bombarded with offers from the South, She is choosing her films carefully. “I would have never accepted this role if I had to play the role of a 20 something girl. The beauty of this character is that I play my age and yet the movie revolves around me. I have my priorities right. I refused a movie opposite Ravi Teja because it had lot of skin show. I am not ready for that. “She also refused some good offers with Mahesh Babu and other senior members in the industry all because “I didn’t feel it was right for me”.

Hansika MotwaniIn less than 10 days of her movie release Hansika has managed to create a large fan base in the city. there are websites dedicated to her and fan blogs. “The most beautiful moment of my life was when I came to  the city for a showroom inauguration. My fans followed me all the way from the airport to the store and some broke open my car window just to get a glimpse of me. It was crazy and I loved all the attention.” With Tollywood offers continuing to pour in. Hansika plans to make the best of both Tollywood and Bollywoo. For sometime who won 13 awards as a child atiste, “language has never been a barier,” she says, adding “Tollywood is a great industry. They are extremely professionl and co-operative. Allu Arjun was fun to work with.”

What’s impressive is the fact that Hansika is juggling her newfound fame with her studies. ” I am doing both class 11 and 12 in one year from the International school in Mumbai. I go through my books as and when I get tim. But more academic, my mom wants me to interact with friends of my age. I might be a star in the film world, but otherwise I am a normal kid.”

Hansika MotwaniIn spite of having a CA to manage her finances and a scretary and manager to manage her career, hansika still gets her pocket money from her mom. “These are little things you need to do remind yourself no matter how big you become, you are yoursel. My mom is always ther to ensure that my head remains firmly on my shoulders.”

Kaajal and Kalyan RamIn the time of discos, cyber love and cellphone craze director Teja once again decides to take the audience to the villages. Nothing wrong in that, villages are part of our life. But the story goes on the trodden path.

Kaajal and Kalyan RamThe village heads of Rayavaram and Kotipali — Chenchuramaiah and Chalamaiah — are the evil ones who don’t mind taking lives at the drop of the hat. Chenchuramaiah’s daughter Lakshmi (Kaajal) and her her aunt’s son Ramu (Kalyanram) are born to fall in love and get married. But Chalamaiah’s son Giridhar (Ajay) has alrady cast his evil eye on Lakshmi. Why he even kills his wife to get married to Lakshmi. Ramu has another enemy in the form of his own maternal uncle Chenchuramaiah whose wicked plans along with Chalamaiah leads to the murder of Ramu’s father. With so much venom flowing around, how will Lakshmikalyanam take place?

Around this time-tested storyline, director Teja packs a lot of punch by focussing on the rustic, hot-headedness in villages were pride and prestige rule the roost. So we have a temple that is sealed by the Collector to stop feuds, villagers are barred from entering each other’s villages and bullock cart races are held to win either for the bride or water for the village. Teja brings out the best in Kalyanram and Kalyanram does not let him down. Kaajal is sure to become a director’s actress. Sayaji Shinde as Chenchuramaiah once again makes a perfect villain. He is so much at home in Tollywood. Teja ensures that cinematography by R.A. Krishna, exposing rural life, is picture perfect.
