Kaajal and Kalyan RamIn the time of discos, cyber love and cellphone craze director Teja once again decides to take the audience to the villages. Nothing wrong in that, villages are part of our life. But the story goes on the trodden path.

Kaajal and Kalyan RamThe village heads of Rayavaram and Kotipali — Chenchuramaiah and Chalamaiah — are the evil ones who don’t mind taking lives at the drop of the hat. Chenchuramaiah’s daughter Lakshmi (Kaajal) and her her aunt’s son Ramu (Kalyanram) are born to fall in love and get married. But Chalamaiah’s son Giridhar (Ajay) has alrady cast his evil eye on Lakshmi. Why he even kills his wife to get married to Lakshmi. Ramu has another enemy in the form of his own maternal uncle Chenchuramaiah whose wicked plans along with Chalamaiah leads to the murder of Ramu’s father. With so much venom flowing around, how will Lakshmikalyanam take place?

Around this time-tested storyline, director Teja packs a lot of punch by focussing on the rustic, hot-headedness in villages were pride and prestige rule the roost. So we have a temple that is sealed by the Collector to stop feuds, villagers are barred from entering each other’s villages and bullock cart races are held to win either for the bride or water for the village. Teja brings out the best in Kalyanram and Kalyanram does not let him down. Kaajal is sure to become a director’s actress. Sayaji Shinde as Chenchuramaiah once again makes a perfect villain. He is so much at home in Tollywood. Teja ensures that cinematography by R.A. Krishna, exposing rural life, is picture perfect.
